Batman is a DC Comics superhero who made his first appearance in Detective Comics #27 in May of 1939. His real name is Bruce Wayne. He is among the most popular superheroes of all time.

When he was a kid, Bruce's parents were mugged and killed in front of him by Joe Chill. Determined to end crime, Bruce used his inheritance to journey the Earth, learning various martial arts and studying criminal psychology and many different subjects to aid him in his war on crime in Gotham City.

Donning a suit resembling a bat, Batman preys on the fears of criminals while appearing harmless to children and other innocent people. His training has given him immense strength with some sources saying he can lift up to a thousand pounds. His utility belt has numerous gadgets that aid him in fighting criminals, the best known being the Batarang. His ability to follow even the smallest clues that lead to arrests have also dubbed Batman the title of "World's Greatest Detective." Though Batman acts as a vigilante, he is useful in defeating dangerous criminals the police can't handle. Batman has only one rule and that is to never take a life.

His archenemy is the Joker, a homicidal maniac resembling a clown. The Joker is a foil and acts as the other side of the coin for Batman. Where Batman is force of law and order, the Joker is madness incarnate and creates misery and death wherever he goes. Despite this, the Joker considers himself Batman's best friend and is one of the few people who has zero interest in Batman's true identity.

As of the Batman and Son storyline, Bruce Wayne has a son that was kept from him by his love interest, Talia Al Ghul. His son, Damian, would become the fifth Robin. Though unruly and violent, Damian's heroic and kinder side causes him to side with his father over his mother, who had become increasingly more evil to the point where she wants to kill her own child.
